About Shannon

A different kind of conversation

My name is Shannon and I offer secure online counselling, working integratively using person-centred, relational psychodynamics, and Gestalt therapy, which I can expand on during our first call. Each session lasts 50 minutes on a weekly basis, as I have found that consistent, regular sessions to be the most effective.

The foundation of our work will be rooted in compassion, non-judgement, and acceptance. We will discuss what you are hoping to gain from therapy, and together, we will seek to understand and make sense of the situations in ways that will be most beneficial to you.

Anything can be brought to counselling; however, I have special interests in grief and bereavement, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, self-harm and suicidal ideation.

A Little About Me

Although I always knew I wanted to become a counsellor, it took me some time to find the right path into the work I feel so passionate about today. I first trained as a Primary School Teacher at York St John University, before going on to complete a Master’s degree in Theatre and Drama Education at the University of Warwick. While these experiences taught me a great deal, I came to realise that my heart was leading me in a different direction. I began working with local charities, including Caring for Communities and People (CCP), where I supported young adults to stay in education and create more stable home lives, and Swindon and Gloucestershire Mind (SGMind), where I worked alongside people experiencing mild to moderate mental health challenges. It was through these roles that I truly found my calling. Wanting to deepen my understanding and skills, I completed my first counselling course at the University of the West of England, followed by a Master’s degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of supporting people through my work at The Listening Post, a counselling charity in Gloucestershire, as well as within an Employee Assistance Programme at Healthcare RM. These experiences have continued to shape the way I work, with warmth, compassion, and a genuine belief in the importance of feeling heard and understood.

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapist (BACP) and follow their Ethical Framework which can be found at www.bacp.co.uk.
